<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The article examines how space, the space theme is presented in the social and cultural landscape of Kazakhstan. Despite Kazakhstan has on its territory the largest cosmodrome Baikonur, it has a Soviet monumental and pictorial heritage on a space theme, there is, however, little reliable information about what happened behind the concrete fences of the cities of Baikonur, Priozersk, Sary-Shagan, covered by the space infrastructure. Space in such a situation looks more like a definite media picture with smiling, eternally positive images of astronauts. For the review article, the theoretical concept of Pierre Nohr is used that places of memory are peculiar markers of the current demand or lack of demand for the past.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>космос</kwd><kwd>места памяти</kwd><kwd>монументы</kwd><kwd>культурный ландшафт</kwd><kwd>Байконур</kwd><kwd>космонавты</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>space</kwd><kwd>places of memory</kwd><kwd>monuments</kwd><kwd>cultural landscape</kwd><kwd>Baikonur</kwd><kwd>cosmonauts</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><funding-statement xml:lang="ru">Статья подготовлена по проекту АР08856485 «Космос» в культурном ландшафте Казахстана: социальное и культурное измерение» в рамках программы грантового финансирования Министерства образования и науки Республики Казахстан.</funding-statement><funding-statement xml:lang="en">The article was prepared under the project AR08856485 «Space» in the cultural landscape of Kazakhstan: social and cultural dimension» within the framework of the grant funding program of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.</funding-statement></funding-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Нора П.
