Abstract
The problem of insufficiency of application of traditional designing methodology for modern conditions of urban re-construction with permanent functional variability of built-up areas and new forms of public and recreational spaces is considered. As a research hypothesis, a thesis was put forward on the need to include in landscape and urban planning a methodological section of pre-project research under the working title "archetypal code" of the territory. In this paper, the author's definition of the "archetypal code of the territory" is given, the conditions for including the archetypal code in the traditional design methodology are determined, the typology is defined and its stages are proposed. The approbation of the methodological basics of the archetypal code is demonstrated by the examples of bachelor's and master's graduation works, carried out at the Department of Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture of the NSUADA under direction of the author.
