Abstract
This work is dedicated to the identification and comparative analysis of the architectural and planning features of two historically and territorially connected cities in the Novosibirsk region: Kuybyshev (Kainsk) and Barabinsk (KainskTomsky). These features have been shaped by various historical factors that have influenced their unique appearance, as well as an assessment of the degree of preservation of their historical buildings. The urban development of small towns in Western Siberia and its connection to historical and cultural contexts represent an important source for understanding local strategies for urban environment formation. The relevance of the study is also determined by the necessity to preserve regional identity in the context of globalization. The reference base of the article includes archival and cartographic sources related to the cities, photographic materials, and literary sources on the history and architecture of the Novosibirsk region. The research methods employed include comparative and cartographic analysis, as well as a historical-geographical approach, which allowed for a deeper understanding of the specifics of urban development in each city. The results of the analysis demonstrate significant differences in the architecture and planning structure of Kuybyshev and Barabinsk, despite the largely common conditions for the formation of their urban environments.
