Abstract
The article examines how space, the space theme is presented in the social and cultural landscape of Kazakhstan. Despite Kazakhstan has on its territory the largest cosmodrome Baikonur, it has a Soviet monumental and pictorial heritage on a space theme, there is, however, little reliable information about what happened behind the concrete fences of the cities of Baikonur, Priozersk, Sary-Shagan, covered by the space infrastructure. Space in such a situation looks more like a definite media picture with smiling, eternally positive images of astronauts. For the review article, the theoretical concept of Pierre Nohr is used that places of memory are peculiar markers of the current demand or lack of demand for the past.
